Meet Coach O’Connell

I am just one of the three assistants for IPFW Women’s Basketball. This will be my second season coaching the Lady Dons. After playing at IPFW for five years I was given an opportunity to continue my love for the game from a coaching standpoint. Some of my responsibilites besides on the court development include: keeping track of our teams academics, conducting study table, scheduling, camps, scouting opponents, community relations and community service projects.

While a Mastodon, I was a two-year captain and named to the Independent All-Academic team in the 05-06 and 06-07 seasons with a 3.24 GPA. As of now I hold the single game record for three point field goals made percentage against UMBC in 05-06 (6-6). Along with this record I am also #5 All-Time in three point field goals made with 142 in my career and on Division 1 All-Time list I sit at #3 in the same category. I was honored to be apart and play for IPFW and I am even more honored to still be apart of this growing program.

Born and raised in Warsaw, Indiana, I was apart of the Warsaw Lady Tigers basketball team. During my years I played varsity all four years and was named to the All-Conference team three years in a row. Along with these honors I also received MVP for three years, was named 21 Alive Player of the Week and participated in the Nancy Rehm All-Star Classic, as well as the Junior All Stars.

My family has been a major part of my accomplishments. During my high school and college careers I had all the support I could get from my family. My parents followed me to my games only missing a few during those nine years of playing. I have two older siblings, Nate and Angela, who both played basketball and were able to give me all their love and support. I couldn’t have gotten through the ups and downs without my family.

I look forward to seeing this program continue to grow in the dirction it is going. To be apart of something, such as this, has been an amazing experience and I have learned and continue to learn so much more about basketball and myself. I am excited for the upcoming season and look forward to what this season will bring us.
